The November issue of Scientific American will repay close attention.
It contains a story by Russell Schweikart, Edward Lu, Piet Hut and Clark
Chapman. These are the founders of the B612 Foundation
(http://www.b612foundation.org/) whose mission is to promote development of
asteroid deflection systems. The SciAm story describes one proposal, using
Project Prometheus hardware and estimated to cost $1B.

In addition to that, the issue has a conversation with Brian Greene on
string theory, an article on small robots, and the usual columns.
