There were the usual inaccuracies:
- supposedly LOX in an HPR rocket at LDRS
- they made it sound like TRA is the only certification org
- etc
but overall I think it was great fun to watch and probably did the hobby
more good than bad. There were a few CATOs and other mishaps but this made
the show more spectacular.
It sure made me want to dust of my Eclipse and launch it again :-)
As for the parachute systems, I'm sure they were pretty good in design but
then the implementation leaves something to be desired. Battery mounted
incorrectly, DIP switch in wrong position, incorrectly wrapped chute,
whatever. User error. Insufficient testing. The usual mistakes that make
systems fail.
