The reality of space law is that it will evolve from the laws common to the cultures from which the pioneers come from, strongly influenced by the harsh realities of space. The captain will be the law in early exploration, and any other necessary laws will be worked out by the pioneers. The space faring part of civilization cannot afford the bullshit of the current legal system, especially not that from the socialists who developed the Outer Space Treaty. <rant> (as if I hadn't already started...) > [...] says Sylvia Ospina,[...] > "There is not, and should not be, any privatization of outer space. The last century has demonstrated over and over again that when something 'belongs to all', it really means it belongs to a tyrant and his inner circle. Why have these idiots not learned after all the tragedy of the last century that socialism *cannot* work? For any serious colonization to occur, the new colonies must offer something worthwhile to potential colonists. That something will include private ownership by homesteading and some degree of sovereignty. I've a hunch that the pioneers will demand it and (try to) enforce it themselves if need be. </rant> Dave -- David Masten <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> _______________________________________________ ERPS-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.erps.org/mailman/listinfo/erps-list
