If you look at the normal deployment of an ESB in SOA, it is not 
considered equivalent to mod proxy, but the extensibility of synapse 
allows you to do so if you really want. At least that is my view, but 
not all will agree with me :-)

Yes exactly... but if you want to get this support added onto ESB you 
could very easily do this by writing a message formatter and a builder 
pair to process text/html messages.
