Jim, I don't think it's wrong to feel the way you do. I was supposed to move into a two family last year and at the last minute I found out the dog moving in upstairs was a Pit I told the landlord I would not be moving in, thankfully I found out before I moved in! Even if the dog was a nice one my male Eskie doesn't do well with most large dogs and I was afraid my dog would start something and the other dog would finish it. If you leave I don't blame you a bit. If you decide to stay and try to work it out or you need to stay a while I would be very cautious and not bring the boys out when her dog is out too. The mace spray for dogs is called Direct-Stop and some people carry it for walks and such in case they are attacked or approached by an aggressive dog. If you want it I'll bet you could get it online. Good luck and let us know what you decide. In my case the landlord did not care he always had Rotties so I think he felt I was unfairly predjudiced against the other dog. I have a big problem. I live in a duplex. My neighbor is moving out and it seems my landlord has decided to rent to anyone he can since the market isnt very good right now. The new tenant is a single mom with a huge 85 llbs unnueatured male pit bull. I have already seen one family pet absolutely mauled in front of me by one of these dogs.
