Marian,

I'm on Facebook.  Is it ok to join the group to keep updated even if I don't
have a rescue from there?  If it is, I'm under Darlene Lego Garr.  I can
request the group or you can invite me.

Marion, his face is nice and white....it almost looks like it doesn't belong on

that a dog doesn't know how to drink water or a food bowl scares the dog???
That should be another charge.

My heart breaks when I hear these stories...but on the other hand it smiles
when I see you guys who I have come to "sorta know" show what you have and see
you working with these poor little fur balls. I feel proud to have some contact
with all of you, who have opened your homes and hearts for these
little dogs. The effort you all have put in with them is amazing...and we know
that the Vet care that you all have and will be putting in is not cheap.
Again...you people amaze me!

HA!! Oh G...no!!  All sorts of things are coming out...fear of the food bowl
etc, one doesn't know how to drink water so is being "hand fed" water.......and
really interesting solutions....or still works on progress....if you have a
concern just post to the group.....pretty well all of us either have a K-dog,
or are dealing with the dogs in one way or another ....Perry and Stacie...I
don't know whether you're on Facebook..you don't have to be to join the
group...if you'd like I'll send you an invite...just advise as to what
address ....and if anyone else on this list would like to join...just type in
Kennewick Alumni and it should take you to the group....or let me know the
email and I'll send an invite :)...meanwhile here's a pix of Niko and Lillie
resting after play......you can see how yellow Neek is ...and would you believe
that under that yellow coat he has a nice white coat growing in...he may have a
touch of biscuit on his ears....but that's
it.....my fella is snow white :)...Lillie is actually snow white....and looks
a tad tan in the photo and Neek is quite as yellow as he looks but you get the
picture...Lillie was exhausted LOL....

Patty - if you check into the Kennewick Alumni Group on Facebook that you
belong to...you will see all sorts of interesting posts from other Alumni and
the various problems we are experiencing and the solutions....each dog is
different and each of those dogs, good and bad...so we think....maybe we're
wrong...I personally don't think there's any such thing as a bad dog,... just a
bad owner....deserves our respect....and yes, Love....

Hugs

As Sammy becomes a little better.  Bo is a little less Better.  I cannot wait
until the room gets done.  next week.  this is killing me to have them in
crates albeit larger ones.  and Each Eski I have had is totally different
behavior wise.    So if I asked any questions.  Its is only because Im
intersted in how you guys handle yours.  as each clue from someone is an
option.

When I go to see help Death row Eskis..  I have a respect for that dog and what
they might have gone through..  and I have no expectations whatever.   I feel
that testing sometimes at this point can be misleading.  and there are some who
appear good natured and then all of a sudden something will trigger them.  Or
an eski that tests bad has come out to be a wonderful wonderful loved dog.

When a person is telling me all they know about the dogs.  I just listen and
try to glean what I can from it but go away with filtered information in teh
back of my mind  and remember much like humans they have been effected by
things we know nothing about.

I know these posts are to be cheerful.......  but I think it would be wonderful
if we heard of the issues that are going on,  I know fear is the biggee.   and
we all know what dogs and people do out of fear.

Thanks for posting.  I love my bunch.   and prob why Its hard for me to adopt
to people who have no experience.    not that Im a guru.  as each one teaches
me something more .

Im trying to get on to Yahoo group for the dogs.  But my goodness all the
passwords etc etc and it still is not accepted.  so if Im not going to the
right place please advise. Patty

This is just a public service announcement of sorts.

Its very important to understand luck is not a factor in dealing with this sort
of scenario. A person really needs to know the situation they are approaching
before actually make the approach, not only for their own safety, but for the
welfare of the animal they are approaching.
I wish I could give a cut and dry answer as to how a non domesticated animal
should be handled, but just like everything else in life, every situation is
different. So it is a matter of reading the dog, analyzing what you see, then
approaching (or not approaching) the dog on the information that you have
gathered.

I know how pretentious this sounds but so many people with best intensions go
into a situation by something they see other people doing, or on TV like the
Whispering Dog Guru or something to that nature, not knowing what the
ramifications actually are. Someone can really get hurt bad if things go awry.

Marian,

Teeny steps is a good approach with these kids. They will come around for you
as you seem to have the kindness and resolve that they need at this point.

You're very very lucky that you have 4 that you can get close to.  Many of them
are like your other 1..outside of the rescue people they have had little to no
human interacation...Niko was the same way when I first got him, (couldn't get
near him....) and he's still wary but is coming around....it will take time,
but I'm in it for the long haul, and he is rehabibable (word?  Sp??) but it is
going to take time..  All teeny steps.....

It looks like a lot of the black is off Brady's nose...How old is he? He can't
be a pup then....am I right? BUT...regardless, he is a very pretty dog!
Actually, his face is a lot like my Bears was and it doesn't look like he has
tear stains. He is sweet. Are you able to get that close to the other 4?
Geee....wondering if Sparky needs a friend...JOKE

Yesterday,  7-3-09 5 of the dogs from this puppy mill raid in Kennewick,
Washington  http://www..king5.com/video/index.html?nvid=366147 arrived at the
American Eskimo  Rescue and Sanctuary of Iowa.

These Guys are going to be are going to be a challenge. After the initial
temperament test and evaluation  we are pretty sure at least 4 of the 5 are
most likely able to be rehabilitated.

These dog have had no socialization whatsoever so we will be starting from
"touch".

The pictures below are of the first Eskie we have been working with. His name
is Brady we are calling him Frady Brady. As you can see he is on his way to
mastering "touch" maybe soon even "hug" :)
