Hi Cheryl, I'm so sorry that your bite was infected. You sound tired and exhausted and I can clearly see your care in trying to find a solution that is better for you both. I have to agree about the fight idea not being great - my trainer said it's called flooding when you try to do a whole lot of stuff all at once that they're afraid of, and she says the research says it doesn't help at all (her response when I was given advice about exposing my dog to a lot of the things that set her off). I am wondering if a muzzle might be a good short term solution for you until you find a path that works?

It helps to know there are people like me who feel as I do about dogs. My doctor who is treating the abcess I got from the bite said "Shoot the dog." The dog is a problem but only with ONE of my dogs. In a one-dog home or with a female dog, he is an absolute love. He likes children too. Not sure about cats though. I cannot figure out exactly what triggered his feelings about Lightning and I've about quit trying to puzzle it out. I'm just trying to get him a good home before something else happens to me. Spent 5 hours in ER yesterday because of the bite and it's still not cleared up. Got to get Rx filled and hope that finishes off the infection. I suspect it won't though. He isn't a bad dog, just needs a different situation. But I can't keep going to the ER. Animal control will be a problem if that happens. And I can't make myself let them fight it out. I do have insurance for me but not for the dogs if the fight was bad. When I had cataract surgery in April it took 5 pokes in my left hand and then the inside of my wrist to get a good vein. The second eye surgery only took 4 pokes!! The anesthetist was the one who was finally able to get it. I hope the Clomicalm works. I need something for my little Kennewick PM boy, Benny. We did the IV's at home 3 x times a day when our daughter had a really bad infection several years ago. She had one of those ports put in and the company, Apria, came out 3 times to help train us on how to do them. If we can do them anyone can!! I'll have to read it. The four dogs aren't the problem. They are a well rounded pack. The fifth dog is the problem. He just hates one of my four. As I type this I'm washing clothes to go to the ER. The wound from the second bite I got from him has become infected and is absessing. (sp?) It is so bad that it smells. My doctor told me that antibiotic pills wouldn't help it. It was too bad and needs IV antibiotics. I've got to find a home for this dog with no other animals STAT. I don't have money for a trainer.
