I’m not sure if this effects anyone on this group but I want to make everyone aware of what is going on here.
Animal rescue transports often run their routes through Cumberland County, TN on I-40 and schedule change of leg/drivers in Crossville, TN. Currently there is a horrible and extremely dangerous situation with animal control officers in this county. Since the humane society closed it’s doors first part of the summer due to lack of funds, every animal now is being sent to the animal control facility where they only hold the dogs for an average of 3 days before putting them down – (sooner for some breeds). While that alone is bad enough, recently an ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER HAS SHOT AT LEAST ONE DOG IN THEIR PEN. According to the worker – Wiley Potter, as he was taking food and water into the pen, the dog charged so he shot the dog in the pen? (1) Why didn't he step out of the pen and close the gate - (2) what was he doing carrying a gun while feeding the animals. More questions need answers here. These are just a couple of questions which need answers. Volunteers of the facility have contacted the news media around the state to inform them about the horrible abuse which occurs at this facility. After a news broadcast about the shooting, and during a county counsel meeting, the director and the facility is now attempting to block all volunteers from the facility so no further reports of abuse, neglect and actions can be made. I have personally seen the horrible conditions in which these dogs are being forced to live. Sprayed with freezing water, food left mixed in with feces, no proper shelter and we’ve had one of the hardest winters on record and no fresh water or food. The facility has not returned my calls concerning pulling 2 PB Doxies so I worry that dogs which could be pulled by other rescues are being blocked as well. While the counsel is trying to cover up their actions, I am contacting all the transport coordinators not to schedule transport leg changes in Cumberland County – especially not in Crossville, TN. If one of the dogs were to get loose, it could be shot or injured before the transport rescue could find it, not to mention, the conditions it would be kept if caught. The change can be done in Monterrey – directly on the west side of Crossville on I-40 and Rockwood to the east. (There’s actually other closer areas) While I can’t speak for everyone that drives the route between Cookeville, TN and Knoxville, TN, I’m certain that they all would agree it would be better to be safe.
