Subject: [eskiepeople:17660] SURGERY - ROUND 4
Date: Thu, 23 Jun 2011 23:19:57 -0400
Hello folks. I thought I’d give you a heads up on what is going on around
here. Honestly, if it isn’t one thing, it’s another.
As you know, Don broke his foot chasing a couple eskies that got out of the
backyard two years ago. He has had three surgeries:
1) To put a screw and to fix a broken toe. Well the screw pulled thru the
bone and he had to go back
2) Removed screw and put in cage (as we call it). Plate and eight screws
3) Removed one screw – extremely normal and routine.
Now we are heading for round four. Don has been having severe pain and appears
to have some deformation to the foot. So off to the doctor he went. Had
x-rays done and a CT was ordered. Well the CT showed there is NO healing of
the foot at all. The bones are not fusing together. A couple of the screws
are completely sheared off. So, the surgeon has to go in and redo everything.
He is going to harvest stem cells from another part of his body (like the hip,
ankle or knee) and inject it into the foot to promote healing. He is also
going to some sort of material to induce/promote bone growth and bone fusion.
The surgeon doesn’t think Don’s body isn’t absorbing nutrients like it should.
No offence, but he’s absorbing something because it goes to the belly. LOL I
told Don to tell the doctor to use duct tape and everything will be fine.
Anyway, surgery is schedule for August 15 at 7am.
You want to know what it means for the rescue….Well; it means it falls on me.
We’ll still pull, etc. but will be limited on when I can pull and take dogs to
the vet as I have to work, etc.
That’s the latest around the Cobb house. I think I’ll need to be committed
after this surgery. LOL
