Hello all, I've loved this question because I've bought a house last summer. Before buying I've did a lot of researches such as the security, the current fees, the privacy and so forth. As the result of all my questions, I found pros and contras of both types of homes. I guess that it is a question of feeling. However, in my case, the solution was a townhouse. A townhouse is in the middle of both options. I am close to the metro (convenient), the house is big enough for my little family, the fees are not to high, I have wonderful neighbors in a safe community with common services. It is just perfect for me. In order to show a little more what a townhouse is, I send you some pictures of the townhouses (not the mine!!) This question, from my point of view, is a controversial one. In the following paragraphs I will analyze both these options and present my view. >From the one side, living in a modern apartment building brings many benefits. >First of all, it is cheaper than living in a traditional house and paying >different kinds of fees I am not familiar with. For instance, my friend, who >recently bought a new house for his family, said me that it is much easier to >live in an apartment and I tend to believe him when I see his bills. So, >living in an apartment will definitely help me to save some money. Second of all, since I live alone I do not need a big house with many rooms. I just need a bedroom and a living room where I can take my guests and have my work place. Another important benefit of living in an apartment is that I will not have to buy much cumbersome furniture in order to furnish all rooms. However, living in a modern apartment building can have a few disadvantages too. Firstly, it can be noisy and, secondly, I will not have any privacy outside my apartment, for example, in a pool or gym. >From the other side, living in a traditional house have some advantages too. >For example, I can have my own pool, gym and a garden where I can relax and be >alone. However, living in a house is usually more expensive and requires more >time to maintain a house. For instance, I will most likely have to hire >someone to mow my lawn and clean my pool not to mention all household tasks >inside the house. In conclusion, I think at this moment I would prefer to live in an apartment. It can help me save some money and allows me to spend more time studying because I will not have to do many household tasks. " I think he explores this question very good. I am now living in an apartment with a small yard in front of it and it has two small gardens. but we have no right to plant anything in it because the management of the building controls it and each season they bring a gardener to plant in it. I support living in traditional houses because it's completely under the owner's control. you don't have to obey the apartment regulations. The children can play freely in their house. They can play energetically, they can jump, shout and water the gardens. If I live in a traditional house, I will plant vegetables by myself. In the morning i can enjoy the outdoor areas, even it is located in a crowded city like Tehran. So on the whole I prefer traditional houses because they are larger, more traditional and remember old days, I have a whole control of it, I can set chairs and tables in the outdoor area and celebrate my parties there. But all these don't imply that for example if we are living in apartment, we will suffer. no. Living in apartment has also its benefits. A traditional large house needs you to spend a lot of time each day take care of it and clean it if you don't have any servant who serves you. But you for example as a staff or student with limited time at home can take care of a medium sized apartment. As Javad said nowadays we have fitted kitchens and everything is prepared even in small apartments so The best that I wish is having a house in countryside for free times and having a apartment near university or work. I think its the ideal case. But youth usually cannot afford both a house and apartment. Can they in your country? In Iran not only if your are a very wealthy guy. Compared with modern department building ,i prefer living in traditional house, firstly i can enjoy a peaceful and beautiful environment while living in tradition house which are often located in countryside,On stepping out of my house on the morning ,what come into my view are those flourishing greenery and the vast blue sky instead of crowded traffic and uproar of the city.Secondly,if i have enough space for my traditional house ,i can have my own garden where i can plant some different kinds of flowers ,that is a best place for me to relax myself where i can smell the frangrance of the flowers and enjoy the beauty of them .however in modern building .u cant have that kind of garden. actually i do love quiet ,rural england ,and traditional house in there is what i really want to live in ,i wish i could have a chance to to visit there in the future. -- The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination. -- The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "ESL Podcast".
