The National Institute of Technology Management
at University College Dublin
has been awarded funding by Science Foundation Ireland as part of
the Centre for Science, Engineering and Technology: the Centre for
Telecommunications Value-Chain-Driven Research (http://ctvr.ie). UCD
is one of 9 collaborating institutions and will be working closely
with the newly formed Bell Labs Ireland http://www.bell-labs.com/ on
the theme of Value Chain Optimisation.
There are three or four funded positions at NITM, the first two are
already filled:
1. PhD scholarship to specialise in business process mapping
of the
telecommunications supply chain and its constituent organisations.
2. PhD scholarship to specialise in quantitative supply
chain modelling for optimisation, involving operations research
techniques.
3. One or two Post-doctoral researchers – preference will be
given to candidates able to bridge elements of 1 and 2 above, i.e.,
business process mapping of the telecommunications industry with a
view to identifying and specifying optimisation opportunities.
However, applications are also welcome from candidates specialising
in one area. It is envisaged that optimisation problems will be
identified at two levels:
a) wherever large-scale quantitative problems are encountered in
various operational areas;
and b) an integrated model for optimisation of
telecommunications firms' value chains. The latter problem set might
include topics such as demand forecasting, technology evolution,
contract management and outsourcing strategies.
Applications are invited for the post-doctoral research positions
from candidates with the following qualities:
A PhD in Operations Research, Management Science, Supply Chain
Management or a related area, such as mathematical modelling or
simulation;
Recent relevant publications accepted or in progress;
Interest in working in a multi-disciplinary project with technical
and business components;
Ideally, some exposure to the telecommunications market, the
electronics industry and supply chain management practice and tools.
The posts will be held on a fixed-term contract with University
College
Dublin for a term of up to 4 years and will be based in Dublin. The
salary for these posts will be in the range €33,000- 40,000 per year.
