Thanks, applied: http://hg.et.redhat.com/cgi-bin/hg-virt.cgi/applications/virt-manager--devel/rev/1144683a4413 I'm pretty sure the first round of patches for the avahi support was using the hostname as the list entry, and I was dropping '.local' since it seemed like extraneous info (stripping it doesn't cause problems here).
