Hello Gavin and others,

I really appreciate your work from the past months and I feel a little
uncomfortable because I did not find the time to include your patches in
the repository. Let me express, that I'm really willing to change that.

My idea is to replace the current default branch with the code from the
stable-1.5 branch (keeping the change sets in another, maybe "unstable"
branch), since the default branch is not maintained for a long time and
is unusable for most people. This really is a show stopper, because new
users could be discouraged.

Then I would start to merge the numerous patches from the list. Since
some of you are deeply involved and made experiences with testing the
patches already, may I suggest that you post a short summary, which
patches exactly you personally would like to be merged and the results
of the tests. I just want to make sure, that I'm not committing older
versions, or things that will break functionality for others.

If these changes in the default branch will be used widely I would
suggest to merge them in the stable-1.5 (or a newer) branch in the
medium term.

BTW, most comfortable are hg bundles, but I can handle all other formats
too... ;-)

Florian
