Hello Christoph, I successfully managed to install the native driver in a 4.8 kernel. However in the configure command I used the flag: --with-e1000e-kernel=3.16, as this was the latest kernel regarding the e1000e driver, and it worked. I didn't have any issues regarding connectivity. If someone else thinks that this isn't proper or I was wrong, we should discuss it further. I haven't been in the Xenomai dance just yet, as I know that there might be some development cost and there could be other issues to consider (portability). But as a matter of fact, if I would follow this path, I would use the Xenomai 3, as it is maintained nowadays.
Best regards, Mike P.S: Did you find any difference in the performance? I mean between the Xenomai 2 and PREEMPT_RT patch. I would love to get an answer on that. ________________________________________ Από: etherlab-users <etherlab-users-boun...@etherlab.org> εκ μέρους του etherlab-users-requ...@etherlab.org <etherlab-users-requ...@etherlab.org> Στάλθηκε: Πέμπτη, 12 Απριλίου 2018 3:45 πμ Προς: etherlab-users@etherlab.org Θέμα: etherlab-users Digest, Vol 130, Issue 7 Send etherlab-users mailing list submissions to etherlab-users@etherlab.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.etherlab.org/mailman/listinfo/etherlab-users or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to etherlab-users-requ...@etherlab.org You can reach the person managing the list at etherlab-users-ow...@etherlab.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of etherlab-users digest..." I thought the native drivers don't work with newer kernels. I am currently using the native driver for e1000e Intel cards on Debian Jessie (kernel 3.16) and would like to upgrade to Debian Stretch (kernel 4.9). Another question: Which branch of Xenomai did you use (Xenomai 2.x or Xenomai 3.x)? I did some tests with Xenomai myself and it seemed the master was ready to use with Xenomai 2 while it requires some modifications for usage with Xenomai 3.
