Hi,
I found out about etoile a few weeks ago, and think what you guys are
planning on doing it great! I really like your ideas and am looking
forward to the day I can run etoile on my computer. I know you guys
have been discussing about what OS to base etoile on. Have you guys
considered OpenSolaris? The OpenStep API, clean and modernized NeXT
UI, and a reliable/trusted OS underneath it would sure turn a lot of
heads. And you would probably be one of the first OpenSolaris based
distros ;-) OpenStep was originaly (partially) developed on Solaris
anyways.
Well, it *could* be a possiblity. But frankly if we don't use linux, it
will likely be a free BSD, perhaps DragonFly. Anyway in the beginning,
before starting to talk about an OS, we need to have something that
provides a desktop :-)
And I think that at least the first "distribution/OS" will likely use
Debian -- probably using the GNUstep Live CD as a base... that will be
the simplest way of providing a live CD / OS / environment for us in
the beginning. If we attract other people that are interested to
dedicate more time to an OS, then we'll be able to use a different
OS...
By the way, I'm not a great programmer/hacker but I would like to
help with EN<>JP translations, etc. I just love your ideas/goals.
Translations are welcome, indeed :-)
Cheers,
