It's SoC time again, and since we just missed the deadline last year,
maybe we could try a bit harder this year...
I would be happy to mentor someone, assuming other members of the
group would be willing to provide some input.
A few ideas came up in chat on SILC:
1) Some kind of joint-submission with GNUstep - what things do we
need added / fixed in GNUstep?
2) CoreObject - Quentin and I have been discussing it a bit off-list,
and we now probably have enough that we could lead a relatively
inexperienced developer through the design (expect some more detailed
design docs to appear on the wiki soon, anyway).
3) A file / object manager. A file manager is a possibility, but an
object manager relies on CoreObject. A file manager with a
sufficiently abstract interface that CO support could be added later
might be an idea, however.
4) Some work on better integrating Jabber support? Either adding
things like service discovery, or something like implementing an
extended (i.e. non-local) NSNotificationCenter on top of XMPP? Maybe
add support for an existing whiteboarding protocol, either over XMPP
or stand-alone?
Does anyone have any other (or better) suggestions? If we're going
to do this, we'll need a short description of Étoilé, and of the
project. I think it's worth putting something in this year, because
one of the questions is `did you submit a project last year,' and if
we do next year then it will help us look much more serious next
year, which would be very good.
