I don't have any problem with merging AZBackground and Idle.  While I  
haven't managed it, I think there is a slight chance that a  
sufficiently bad user-supplied script could do some bad things to  
Corner.  If it were to be merged, I might want to start spawning an  
external process (stexec) to run the scripts, or being a bit more  
paranoid in the clean up.  Of course, if the root window is being  
used to check mouse positions, it makes sense to merge Corner and  
AZBackground too...

That said, I also don't have a problem with having lots of little  
tools.  On every *NIX other than OS X, you get sensible process  
limits and so won't have problems with running out.  We waste a  
little RAM, but get extra stability, and more effective use of multi- 
core chips.  It's also worth keeping in mind that some of these small  
tools may grow.  I plan on adding mouse gesture support to Corner,  
and I could see Idle being used to provide other notifications.  I'm  
not sure what the plans are for AZBackground.
