It uses QuickTime, which could be a problem. It also uses its own code for some file formats, however, so it might not be a huge problem. It uses OpenGL for display, which is a lot more portable than CoreImage[1]. David [1] Looking at CoreImage, it seems to be very close semantically to the Render extension.
