It uses QuickTime, which could be a problem.  It also uses its own  
code for some file formats, however, so it might not be a huge  
problem.  It uses OpenGL for display, which is a lot more portable  
than CoreImage[1].

[1] Looking at CoreImage, it seems to be very close semantically to  
the Render extension.  Implementing it using XRender would not be an  
option for GNUstep, since you lose all of the nice cross-platform  
abstractions, but might be for us...
