i recommend guildftpd.  it's not as widely known, but i found it on tucows 
or dave central or something.  i love it because it allows for virtual 
directories.  the only thing that i still feel it needs is the ability to 
be run as a service in winnt or 2k.  other than that, i think it's a great 
piece of software.  it's completely free too.  the other one that people 
recommend is war-ftpd, but i've had problems getting that to even run on my 
machine for some reason, so i personally can't recommend that to anyone.  i 
do really like guildftpd and would like to see more people try it and use 
it.  i found it very easy to configure and install and everything.  and 
don't think by my advocating it that i am at all related to the people that 
made it.  it's just quality software.  i hope this helps you out.
