I don't know if anyone else has been having this problem, but the last several versions of Smart FTP haven't allowed me to download anything reliably. I waited for a new version, and downloaded the one that was released today. Nothing but trouble. At first, the problem was restricted to a few sites. But now, I can't get shows at all. I am allowed to download for no more than a few minutes before I invariably get one of the following messages: Operation would block. Transfer complete server timeout. (When connection is clearly NOT complete.) Connection reset by peer. Non-socket operation. Connection closed. yABOR not understood. Connection closed. Connection timeout. No response from server. (This message will repeat up to eleven times in the same instant, and will then be followed by "Connection refused. Connection closed.") I will also get messages about "no such file or directory" in the middle of downloads, as if the software just lost track of the files it was supposed to grab. Sometimes, it will download files that are no bigger than a few hundred kilobytes -- pretty slim for SHN files! The software, again, claims that the files are complete. It seems to not communicate with FTP servers very well, as I always have trouble navigating FTP sites (again, "no such file or directory" messages are frequent). There seems to be no consistency except that all these messages mean that I can't download. I am currently using (well, I suppose "using" isn't the right term) Smart FTP version 1.0.966 Before this I used 963. Neither allows file transfers to continue for more than a few minutes. The new version will even report that the connection has been closed and then continue trying to log in. I think this version probably has so many bugs that the program can't even function for more than a few minutes. I'm running Windows ME (I know, shoot me in the face) and am on a pacbell DSL line. I've never had probems until I upgraded Smart ftp last month. What should I do? Can anyone recommend good FTP freeware? I would like to continue downloading shows, and all my logins are stored in Smart FTP. But I'd gladly give them all up if I could just find a program that works. Would upgrading, perhaps, to Windows XP help? Any advice is appreciated, and I'll offer b&p's to anyone who can help. http://db.etree.org/hrberg Thanks for your support, etree. If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know. Just how bad is this software? Or is it just me? Sorry that my email wasn't more cheery, but I'l make up for it. Here comes the WOB: b&p's for a 1- or 2-disc show in SHN for three people picked at random from those who reply. Thanks, Etree PEACE, -Rob _______________________________________________ etree mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://mail.etree.org/mailman/listinfo/etree
