From the discussion list 'topicity" page http://etree.org/mail.html#etree:
>The etree.org discussion list is for the discussion of all things

I heartily agree that Furthernet is very closely related to etree, and that
etree members are well-represented in its population and its vanguard. But
thus far, to my perception, only a small fraction of subscribers of this
list are using Furthurnet (like many others, I'm still waiting for
broadband, and I don't think I can play at 56k).
Meanwhile, Furthernet tech discussion seems to be an increasing proportion
of every digest.
The etree paradigm, as defined in the faqs etc., is based upon shns of
taper-friendly bands being shared via ***client/server FTP***. Furthurnet
is neither client-server nor conventional FTP, it's a wonderful new thingie
beyond the scope of our paradigm.
There already exists a Furthurnet forum, as I understand it, where such
stuff can be discussed. I don't suggest banning furthurnet from etree as
if it were an 'unmentionable' topic, but I do believe extended discussion
of it *is* off-topic for this list, and deserves and belongs in its own
space. When person-to-person etrading started to grow and started to take
up a lot of bw on this list, the etrade@etree list was born to move that
traffic, of interest to only a fraction of the etree community who had the
gear to play, to its own forum. I'm starting to think it's time to either
set up a furthurnet@etree list for that unique interest group, shift
furthernet traffic to [EMAIL PROTECTED], or probably just ask as a matter of
etree policy that all that traffic be sent instead to the existing
Furthernet forum, to which those of us who decide we want to know more
about Furthurnet can subscribe when we decide we're ready to jump into that
pool.
For the record, I think Furthurnet is a cool new development, and commend
those making the effort to make it happen. But if this list were to become
about anything and everything having to do with shn trading, there'd be no
point in reading it, it'd be all straw and no needle.
that's my take today, anyway. it'll probably change when I hook up to
furthur.net ;-}
