hey everyone, i posted an ISO w/o any response earlier. that seems to be the way things are going around here lately. i remember when i posted an ISO and would get a minimum of 5 responses.
now, i check my email to read: about the politics that govern the server & moderator teams, endless illegal ISOs (which i don't remember happening all that often until recently), messages from people who had too many other things to do the day they signed up so they skipped the FAQs, email from people who responded to my SHN ONLY b&p telling me that the discs won't play in their CD player and countless other wastes of bandwith. while i'm ranting about WOB... the following passage is the ONLY reference to WOB tax i could find in the etree FAQ: <snip> Please do not grovel for shows played within a band's current tour. If you want to inquire about an older show (i.e. at least 2 months old), please put ISO in the subject heading of your grovel, and please offer to spread some music (B+P) as a "Waste of Bandwidth" (WOB) tax. <snip> so, why do i keep seeing posts from people demanding that others offer a WOB tax? don't misunderstand my point, i support the WOB tax when it applies. is it just the people who were too busy to read the FAQs who send these extraneous emails? i don't think so. what's up with the moderator problems? when PJP left, someone suggested we moderate ourselves. there are entirely too many idiots around for that to possibly work. the endless illegal ISOs and demands for WOB tax are proof of that. who thought Ghost was doing a bad job? not i. i wholeheartedly agree with his zero tolerance policy. if you screw up, you're gone. how hard is it to follow the rules (that is, provided you've read them). several years ago, phish had a decent following of pretty cool kids. most were there for the tunes and friendship. lots of good vibes. a few years passed and more people heard about "that phish band". more time passes and we have parking lots full of scam artists dressed like a mix b/t a dead lot and a fashion show, "hippies" w/ dreadlocks and $40,000 BMWs trying to score some E-pills with no intention of going into the show. my point is, etree started out the same way. people just trying to spread the tunes. time has passed and more people have found out, but they aren't here for the same reason. spreading the music has no longer become the prevailing idea behind etree. it's all about getting, keeping and bitching. there are still some great people here who remember what it's about. i thank those people for helping myself and others get this far. the newbie mentor system is awesome but it's unfortunate that we need a system like that here. when i started, i didn't need that. i could ask questions w/o: being berated for my lack of bandwith tax; feeling like an idiot when someone jumped down my throat for asking a "stupid" question; or being totally ignored by the majority of users. if you've made it this far, congratulations. the idiots have got to go. we need someone to get rid of them. zero tolerance is the only acceptable method of moderation. Ghost, please come back. server/moderator team...deal with him. i don't see any of you people stepping up to fill Ghost's shoes. until you can offer a better solution, let him do what he's got to do. me, i'm heading over to check out the "other list", who's name has been omitted for fear the idiots will find out about that one too. i'm not jumping ship, nor am i advocating that others do so. i'm only seeking what i joined up for. people who just want to keep the tunes flowing. take care, chris WOB: 1 login/2 b&ps for moe. 7-21-01 in honor of the atlanta shows this weekend!! reply with GIMME MOE. in your subject line if you're interested.
