1) Passive mode is a toggle in your FTP program which determines whether you send commands asking the server to do things like listing its directory (active mode) or whether you wait for the server to send you stuff on its own (passive mode). Most servers require that your client be set for active mode, but obviously not all of them. Somewhere in the settings for Fetch should be a toggle for this.
2) In my experience, you will be happier with programs other than Fetch for this kind of task. Much better options for the Macintosh are Transmit (http://www.panic.com) and HeftyFTP (http://www.blackdiamond.co.za/bdhefty.html). Transmit is the simplest possible program but does not offer as much flexibility as Hefty. Hefty has terrific queue and retry features, but comes with a learning curve worthy of Olympic ski jumping. I use both for different things. 3) It's customary to offer a "WOB tax" when you use the list to gain something, like knowledge. It shows that you are interested in giving to the etree community as well as using it for your own advancement. pb On 2/19/02 3:46 PM, "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > what does it mean when somebody tells me I can only use passive mode and how > do I do it using fetch 4.0.1 > > _______________________________________________ > etree.org etree mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > http://mail.etree.org/mailman/listinfo/etree > > Need help?
