Hello Etree, There was a good deal of discussion a couple weeks ago on setting up an "auto-unsubscribe" or "auto-ban" filter for the Etree list to protect us from legal actions and newbie-flaming. I think these suggestions are a bit harsh as has been posted before.
I have a slightly different suggestion -- an "auto-FAQ" filter. If a user post contains "Pink Floyd" or "'NSync" then the user would automatically be mailed the section of the Etree FAQ regarding BTAT. Now, getting auto-FAQ'ed for every post containing "help" and "ftp" would be a pain but it might be wise for the list admins to cook up some generic responses to manually FAQify new users when they post to the etree list. Things like "Subscribe to the announce list and wait for posts..." or "download MKWact from http://x.y.z";. My feeling is that these auto-faq and generic-faq items should be sent to the list as well as to the user because of the number of newbies who (like I did) just lurk on the list until they get a reasonable understanding of what goes on here.
