In the spirit of helpful discussion, I offer my quick (and humble) opinion
on XP.

Changed from '98 2E > XP maybe eight or ten weeks ago. Works fine (even
better, in my opinion) than '98 2E, especially multi-tasking. I keep my
server software running as close to 24/7 as I can, and I hardly ever have
memory slow-downs except when running four or five INTENSIVE apps at a time
(say SmartFTP (with 2 or 3 downloads coming in), BulletProofServer
(supporting 2 or 3 uploads), MKW (converting), Outlook, and maybe copying a
show to my server directory from the dvd drive -that would be a couple of
minute task).

Don't know the specifics of your machine, but if you've got a decent
processor and a fair amount of RAM, XP might be the OS to keep, but I've
found that one really just has to try a few app combinations and see what
happens. I really like the Task Manager in XP (ctrl + alt + del), because
it doesn't always minimize to the tray OR close when minimized. There are
also a couple of more tabs in the Task Manager that are helpful for today's
computer home configurations, plus they give you a nice little visual
representation of how hard your processor and how much of your memory usage
are going on at any given time. . .)

Although the maintenance section of XP can be confusing (and I haven't
figured 1/5 of it out yet), and I had to figure out where the 'protect this
computer from computers on the internet' button was in the CP, I find it
better than '98.

Now ME, I don't know. Does ME have animated shadows for its menus???

(Disabled in my version of XP, but only thanks to DJ POPO and his XTEQ
recommendation).

"I've just gotten a copy of WIN XP on my system when I took it in for an
upgrade. Im a little concerned with this OS b/c I've heard of so many
problems with spyware reporting back to Microsoft and such. I'm going to
run it for a little while, but will probably go back to ME.

I was just curious if anyone could pass along any knowledge of XP and
problems/fixes that you've run in to.

ps - Has anyone reformatted their XP system and taken it back to ME on this
list?"

Thanks
