I conquered the label-thickness issue by using the admittedly pricey clear film
cd labels.
And boy do they look nice on the cd.
The two issues I have with film labels are 1) if it gets wet the ink vanishes; 2)
most
of the label applicators suck when using film--they leave way too many bubbles
that
cannot be massaged out.

My two-cents for label applicator: Avery After-Burner (better but not perfect)
and
I don't use their "special" tabbed labels.
Two more cents: I use labels on audio copies, but wouldn't risk it with my SHNs.
