Hi All-

I'd just like to chime in on this subject. I agree with Kevin.

After reading this > >> >

""""STATEMENT TO MP3 OPERATORS FROM THE GRATEFUL DEAD

No Commercial gain may be sought by websites offering digital files of our
music, whether through advertising, EXPLOITING DATABASES COMPILED FROM THEIR
TRAFFIC, OR ANY OTHER MEANS.

All participants in such digital exchange acknolwedge and respect the
copyrights of the performers, writers, and publishers of the music.

This notice should be clearly posted on all sites that engage in this
activity.

We reserve the ability to withdrawl our sanction of noncomercial digital
music should circumstances arise that comprimise our ability to protect and
steward the integrety of our work."""""

I honestly believe we are the guardians of a vast treasure. I'm a dead
head, and basically couldn't care less about most of the music out here on
these pages, but I respect these other bands for the relationship they forge
with thier fans.

I definately think that putting a link to or subscription information for a
comercial publication is exploiting the databases compiled on the etree
website. I have no idea how many people this goes out to, but it's a lot.
It's also targeted to a specific demographic audience. The argument with my
logic is that etree doesn't make any money on it, because they aren't
selling the list, but I maintain that the Dead and the other bands that are
etree friendly will not see the distinction.

I think that if I can't get free hardware or bandwidth by advertising on my
site why should somebody else get a couple dozen subscritions and boost his
advertising draw just by posting to this email list? But relix is small
potatoes. Look at the email "branding" that goes on.

Things like:

"Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com";

have become so ubiquitous that we barely notice them they have become
subliminal in a way.

I disagree with all of the various forms of "branding" that's going on at
the bottom of these emails. MSN, YAHOO, and the like are spaming us daily
and exploiting the database through all of this email "branding".

Well I guess that's enough of a rant for now. Let that be a lesson to you
all, don't get the opinonated Irishman started.

Wait wait wait . . . Let me get my asbestos jockeys on again.

Okay flame away>

 Peace
