I just recently got, from a taper friend of mine a stephane grappelli with
david grisman from 1980, it was his 3rd or 4th recording and well he got a
great show and great sounding.......these are his words:
Notes:Some thoughts regarding the music: if the master tapes were alive,
they could order themselves a drink, legally. Its hard to believe they
survived for over 2 decardes. The show was a hot, dry, windy afternoon in
the foothills above Saratoga. The Stage ws surrounded by trees in yellow
autumn colors. You can hear them rustling at times. The venue was pretty
strict about bringing things into the show, mostly because I think they
wanted to sell their own drinks. So Getting the deck in took some clever
concealment.
Stealth didnt have a name back them, this was actually an offshoot of
recording Dead Shows, Before the Dead Allowed open taping. This was my 3rd
or 4th recording, and I think it came out about as well as could be
expected. The only editing I have done is to smooth out the abrupt endings
when I paused the recording, or when there was a tape switch. Unlike DAT
tapes that have 2 and 3 hour tapes, analog sort of forced one to keep one
hand on the deck, one eye on the clock, and the other eye on levels. In all
these years, I havent run into much Stephane Garppelli in the trading
world. I hope you enjoy the music. Words by taper: Lee Bittner

This has never been shn'd and want to do it right, this is what I have so
far:
W/Grisman Quintet, 13sep80, The Paul Masson Vintage Sounds Concert Series
Paul Masson Vineyards Saratoga, CA SonyTC-D5 Analog deck>Audiotechnica 801
omni mics>nakamichi cr-3a playback>luxman g-111 equalizer>delta audiophile
2496 soundcard>cooledit pro>cdrcue>cdrwin>EAC>CDR

and it stops there, I have the OG cdr, as Lee does not shn, doesn't know
anything about it and really doesn't care, and I don't fault him for that,
but this is one of those gems that need to be spread so the music never
dies..........email me off list with the hows and I'll get it up on my
server when I get the right way to do it..........thanks dan
