It's not the fact the MP3s don't SOUND good (some do), it's that the MP3 compression scheme is "lossy." That's to say that once a WAV file is compressed to MP3, there is data loss in the WAV file and that data can NEVER be recovered. Do that a few times (WAV>MP3>WAV>MP3 etc) and you're eventually left with crap. The SHN compression scheme is "lossless." That means that when you take a WAV file, SHN compress it, and un-compress, the resulting WAV file is the SAME. Do that as many time as you like (WAV>SHN>WAV>SHN etc) and you're not losing ANY data. I'm not taking EAC into account...
Some people never understand this concept or just simply refuse to believe it. Do a search on Google and research it (MP3 lossy losless SHN etc). If you like MP3s...fine. Just don't bring any MP3 shows here...there are plenty of MP3 trading groups on Yahoo Groups. Etree is for the trading/discussion of "lossless" audio (SHN), not "lossy" audio (MP3). Not a flame...just a simple explanation.
