This discussion has been entirely on-topic. Yes, mp3 discussion is not
"on-topic" for etree, but this does NOT mean that discussions about mp3 and
how it relates to etree is off-topic. We HAVE to have discussions about
this once in a while to remind people what is wrong with mp3 (lossy
compression) and unique about etree (lossless compression).

Also, thank you for the clarification regarding etree vs taper preferences
on ripping shows to mp3. I've always felt that there minimally was an
unwritten 'rule' (not #5, but maybe #8?) that spreading the tunes was a
great thing, but friends don't let friends use mp3, right? I think it is
kind of crappy to get these tunes only to spread them via mp3.

Besides, the more you spread the shows in mp3 format, the more likely that
someone will eventually burn an mp3>audio copy that gets extracted to shn,
thus introducing a lossy generation into the whole circle of groove. So
while there might not be a rule about not spreading mp3 versions of shows
via etree, at least some of respect the medium. Take the time to teach
someone the ropes or minimally just burn them an audio copy.

Not a flame, always friendly. :-)
