It's important to recognize one tiny and familiar distinction between the
general trading community's stance and that of etree on 'liberated
boots.' General trading attitude is liberating boots is OK because it
undermines the thieves who seek to profit by selling unauthorized
boots. Trader-friendly artists don't care if you thusly undermine the
thieves, since they're happy that you have the recording and quite
unsympathetic to the thief. My perception is that 'liberated boots' are
quite welcome in etree circles if at least on par with any other source of
that show already circulating AND, if to be discussed/offered/etc on the
etree lists, are **taper-friendly artists.** The righteousness of the
"liberating boots'" ethic, however, does not override etree's fundamental
adherence to the taper-friendly rule on the lists

Also good to do a little research to satisfy yourself that it's indeed an
unauthorized bootleg you're liberating, and not a licensed Euro or Japan
etc. release that actually IS producing a few nickels for the artist. I've
seen a number of offers withdrawn because somebody points out, to the
offeror's shock and horror, that this is the case. (this most commonly
occurs with foreign re-releases of decades-old material that appear at
first blush to be bootlegs, and is much less likely as to current-scene
jambands).
