hello all i manage a camping store, its family owned. well a rep from a sompany contacted the owner and said that because we play cds over the stores speakers, we need to give money to a company such as musak (sp) i didnt get the whole conversation, but heres the jist of what the owner told me. becasue of copy right infringements, we can no longer play our cds over the stores speakers. we need to pay a fee to a company like musak(sp) in order to play cd's. now ive never heard of such a thing before and its obvious that we are not the only retail store that does this. what i am wondering is, ifi bring in some of my shows from taperfirendly bands, are we negating this whole headache? can we be liable for any such infringement by playing shows from taper friendly bands. if there is anyone out there who has any knowledge of this, please contact me. and please, only get ahold of me if you know of actual terms or policies and not just your opinions, though im sure we are in agreement in our feelings on the matter, i need to be able to go to my owner with something soon before we start making payments to a company in order for us to play cds, id much rather play some shows. in actuallity, it would work out beautifully for me and the owner, he wouldnt have to make an unnecessary payment, and id get to hear my tunes all day long, email me off list if you know something of the matter. fare thee well jer
