Hi I'd like to start serving / mirroring some shows using my dsl connection, and it boils down to a list of checkpoints before I point the firewall in the right direction. Any comments are welcome - the FAQ is pretty sparse and I've scanned the archives...
1] Security. Originally I was gonna use the old P90 rh5.2 box in the corner until I tested how insecure it was. My main box is now running OS X, so I figured I'd install NCFTP and run on the 3 user personal license. So far so good, There is no telnet access through the f/w from the outside ... and I'm *almost* certain no one can launch a telnet session through a shell via their ftp connection. any known weaknesses here? 2] Scripts. All etree admins are adamant about NOOP Keepalive and hammering, Any turnkey guard dogs? 3] a humble subdomain within the .etree.org or dyndns.org for my sticky DHCP IP? This is something I can do once I start the research, but known shortcuts are what I'm looking for. 4] a reasonable download speed cap if I still want to use my 512d / 128u adsl. 5] Mirroring ... I guess we all got our .shns from someone else, but I was wondering if it's considered a friendly act to mirror a show someone else has put up recently. Basically I'm doing this because I've only been able to get into 3 servers in 3 weeks, the demand far outweighs the bandwidth for this stuff. -jas And fwiw, I don't use Toast anymore since OS X. I do all my burning with iTunes _______________________________________________ etree.org etree mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://mail.etree.org/mailman/listinfo/etree Need help?
