I've been wondering for a little while now, how folks feel about burning their audio discs at very high speeds. When I go out and search the 'net for info around this, it seems that most people (at least those who post stuff "out there") are taking the "it's digital, so full speed ahead" approach. However, it gets a little more disturbing for a tyro like me when I start pulling up pages written by recording engineers and other professional-types who are talking about "profound" differences even between 1x and 2x. They mention a range of phenomena--increased tinniness, decreased fullness, even "appeared to be a totally different mix".
I've always thought I had a good ear; been playing and listening to music for 30 years, but I just haven't been able to resolve this issue to my own satisfaction. and when I look at the stack of audio discs I've burned over the last six months, it makes me a little queasy to think I may be cheating myself (not to mention all my non-broadband friends who get audio copies of my shns). Comments, anyone? Michael El Cerrito, SFBA, CA _______________________________________________ etree.org etree mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://mail.etree.org/mailman/listinfo/etree Need help?
