Steve,
Some distros are easier/better in many various ways. I usually
recommed SuSE, as it comes with a lot of applications, and conforms the
the unnoficial "standards" RedHat and its variants(Mandrake) are kinda
like proprietary distros, however i do like mandrake... its a pretty easy
full featured (for a single cdrom) distro. The big deal however is the
hardware you use, especially the video card, as well as modem, and
soundcard, hardware makes more difference in ease of install IMHO. If you
bring your machine to the thursday install clinic, we (a bunch of more
experienced linux users, and newbies alike) will be happy to help you
figure things out. You might want to try the new SuSE 6.3 that will likely
be present. I (if i can remember) will try to bring a bunch of older
distros i dont need and am happy to donate to whomever may want them.
