Subject: "webmaster" opportunity at university bookstore

I'm going to continue a bit of consulting level at the UO Bookstore,
but I have a new job working national and international digital
divide issues as a writer/researcher (yay!). They've decided that
e-commerce might not be their best investment, and want to have a
really useful website, and are willing to help someone in a career
transition.

They're looking for someone here to grow into a position -- it's a
work environment that requires timeclock and no telecommuting (which
is the reason I'm leaving, but you may not care...). You get a super
employee discount, and the people are nice. It's a quiet, well
appreciated job, more like doing a jr. advertising and promotions job
than anything else.

They were doing online buying, but have decided they aren't ripe for
it, so it would be posting sales online, keeping the sportswear
catalog up to date, doing periodic content like author signings and
special events, and so on.

Here's some of the description from the posting. This is a great
opportunity to start your resume with something webby! They are not
looking so much for professional experience in the field as
reliability and willingness to learn fast and good communications (at
this rate, fer sure, since it's $10/hr or per experience!). Full or
part time, so if you can do database and not art, or vice versa, just
come in and fill out the lengthy (includes essay questions!) app.

Closes THURSDAY 12/24!

Responsible for the daily maintenance of store web site. Complete
regular database integration of inventory data from AS400 point of
sale computer system to web site for product display. Will
eventually assist in creating and maintaining e-commerce solutions
for product categories.

Must have previous experience with digital photography, color
correction, and HTML. Familiarity with WebStar, Internet Information
Server, Dreamweaver and web database middle wear helpful. Familiarity
with database functions necessary, applied database experience
helpful. Familiarity with functions of ODBC, RDBMS, SQL, CGI, NT and
Mac OS systems helpful. Previous e-commerce solution development
helpful. Friendly demeanor and excellent communication skills
required.

Submit resume and portfolio of examples of web work to the Bookstore
Human Resources Office.

I want these folks to have a good person, and it could be a sort of
good break for someone here who wants to get into the biz from
another field, and has a reliable work record in whatever you've been
doing.

Happy to answer questions for y'all... And please feel free to pass
this on. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get enough apps with
the holidays, so they might repost it for something more like the
beginning of the new term here.
