Networking question

Hello all.

After upgrading to Mandrake 6.1, my Samba shares no longer work because
Samba can no longer connect to the local host.

The host name is shrdlu.net. However, if you type in uname -a, you get a
host name of:

.shrdlu.net

Note the dot in front of the name. I think this is why Samba is having
the problem.

Nothing in linuxconf or any of the configuration files in /etc put a
period in front of the host name.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
