Dennis,
You can tell your friend that I "feel his pain". I recently got blamed
for a Win 2000 problem that "was like that before I got there".
This idiot I work with, installed Win 2000 Advanced Server on his Dell
Pentium II-266 w. 64 MB of RAM and a 17GB HD. Of course, he strategically
partitioned the disk for a single 17GB Win 2000 partition(NTFS, of
course). Everything was running so damn slow. So, I foolishly tried to
help. While attempting to load some CD mastering SW with NT4 drivers that
I thought had a remote chance of working in Win2000, I got to the point
where a reboot crashed w. a "blue screen" w. a core dump of NTOSKRLN.EXE.
Later, I found out the Win 2000 Advanced Server requires at least dual
CPUs, the more the better. Fortunately, this fellow was given access to
another HD that has a working Win 2000 and was able to daisy chain his
corrupted HD to it and retrieve all his valuable data files.
I learned a hard lesson. Just pretend to have an interest in Win 2000.
But don't get your hands dirty.
Rodney
