I installed Red Hat 5.1 on an old 486, and I am trying to set it of as a
gateway just in case I ever get DSL or a cable modem or something like
that.

The only problem is, Red Hat cannot find the network cards.

Both of them are 3c509 cards, and I managed to set them up so they use
different IRQs and stuff. As far as I can tell, they are set up
correctly, but when the computer boots, Linux displays this message:

insmod: /lib/modules/preferred/net/3c509.0: symbol for parameter io not
found

The conf.modules looks like this:

options cdu31a cdu31a_irq=2 cdu31a_port=0x230
alias eth0 3c509
alias eth1 3c509
options 3c509 io=0x300,0x310 irq=10,12

That is not what it looked like originally. The netcfg program did some
other stuff to it, but that did not work either. I got this setup from
the Ethernet HowTo and a couple of other files. One of them mentioned
that dynamic loading for the 3c509 does not work. Instead, you have to
compile this into the kernal. Is this true? If so, I am going to bring
the computer in on one of these Thursday nights and get some help.
