Nyal and group,
A better idea is to shell out $19.95 at Office Depot for the full
version of WordPerfect for Linux. It has a bunch more fonts and would
be a good way to encourage mainstream stores to carry more Linux
software. The guy at the counter was amazed at the low price, and
more amazed when I told him that the OS it ran on was completely free!
You also get a huge manual with it, which is almost unheard of
nowadays. I have also heard the Corel WP Office Suite 2000 is coming
out shortly for around $100. I have been waiting for CorelDraw and
PhotoPaint to come out for Linux, PhotoPaint is an especially nifty
program (So is Gimp, but not quite so easy to use). If you do a good
deal of word processing and don't need a lot of bloat (like the Star
Office I am using right now), WP is the way to go. In a similar vein,
has anyone used the latest version of ApplixWare for Linux? I have an
older version that worked fairly well, but am curious about the
"improvements" made in the newer versions.

Re: WordPerfect 8.0 for Linux:
An FYI for those that would like to upgrade or try WP,
Maximum PC for April 00 (currently on the newsstands) has a cd with it
that has WP 8.0 for Linux on it. Don't know if it's a demo, full
version, etc, cuz I wasn't willing to shell out the $7+ for the mag.
Maybe if I had a printer hooked up to this box and maybe if I had a
Palm Pilot and maybe if I gave a rusty rats rear about Win2K, et
al..............
