Certainly, M$ stuff, especially "enterprise edition" is expensive. If you decide to 
use Linux instead, I believe
that the correct approach is the take some of the theoretical savings from no 
licensing fees and invest it in
better hardware.

Since many of us do NOT work in a Windows-free environment, I feel it is important to 
keep abreast of the latest
M$ offerings (and score a free t-shrit and/or meal when possible).

If Windows does something substantially better than Linux( e.g. scanner support, in 
some cases), I hope some
talented Linux proponent will feel motivated to improve Linux and lessen any M$ 
advantage.
