like here at home, when I am ssh'd into gladstone or cs (uoregon.edu
servers), I can start netscape, which runs ON those servers, but I see the
window on my terminal...

PS - Maybe the hunt (assuming my guess above is correct) depends on your
use... Are you testing a local server's response from a distance?
Maybe some linux site internationally would allow you an account on their
system provided you are limited to low user space and simple apps like
the browser... if they have decent security in place and a quota system,
it seems trivial to offer you an account... in the trust that you'll not
be abusing thm of course. (ahh, "friendly")
