Logon as root.  From the command prompt, run setup.  
Select "Mouse Configuration".  Select the mouse that's closest to
the one you have.  I would suggest trying "Generic Mouse (PS/2)" or
"Generic Mouse (serial)" before the others.  The two button mouse
settings are the most basic; try them first.

The next dialog will ask you if you want to update your X settings.
Select "Yes".

Then run "/etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm restart".  Move your mouse to see if
it looks right on a text console.  If it's ok, try startx to get your
X-server going.
