ok, here it goes. I brought my computer into one of
the thursday meetings about a month ago with windows
going crazy and decided to whipe everything and
install linux on it so you guys installed Mandrake 7.1
on it without a probem but since i had a winmodem in
it i went out and bought a new hardware modem asap,
(you will proably remember this one) its a " PCI U.S.
Robotics 56k Performance Pro Modem" Model No. 3CP5610A
. On the box it says "Works with DOS, Linux and
Windows" The modem came with a couple of documents for
installing on the diffirent OS's the linux one says
this ""Verify The Modem's installation Under Linux 2.3
and Higher" "NOTE: All 2.3 and higher Linux kernels
contain the 3Com Linux Modem drivers. Installation of
the modem under this kernel is fully automatic
provided your kernel has the plug and play module
enabled (default). After the operating system has
recognized the modem, verify the installation using
the steps below." Then the paper goes on to tell you
how to verify the modems installation under linux...
which is a bunch of stuff i dont understand since i'm
a linux newbie. Well to make a long story short you
guys toyed with it all night and decided i needed to
update my kernel so i downloaded it and stared doing
what you guys told me to do, we were almost done when
i needed to leave so i never got to fix it all the way
well basically i was wondering what distros have the
2.3 kernel or higher and if i whiped my hardrive and
installed one of those distros on it if my modem would
work but i cant go to any of the thursday meetings
until after the football season because of games i
have so if i brought it into PC Traning center isn't
that the store next to the EUGLUG? would you guys fix
it for me? ack....

   Please Help, Nate Backer
