ok, back up a second. have you ran updatedb since you installed
imwheel? from what I remember, it is located in
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/. do you find it there? I will venture a guess
and say no since it isn't starting at bootup (scripts in this directory
are automatically ran when X starts). Thus, it should be located
somewhere else on your system and you may need to move it to this location
(though from what I remember imwheel was automatically placed there during
the install, though it has been a while).
one thing that may have happened, did you first run imwheel as
root? imwheel uses a file in /tmp (imwheel.pid or such) to append the PID
each time it is started. if you are now starting x as a non-root user
then you will not have permissions to write to this file and imwheel will
not work. check your permissions.
if you can run imwheel then it must be on your system.
