There were about 25 people. More new people.
There 5 computer being worked on.
This meeting started out on the slow side. Half the group was at the monthly
tech get together. I walked in and hardly anyone was there. I asked where
everyone was at and Neil told me it was the monthly tech night. This explained
everything.
There was someone trying to recruit for there business there. He was looking
for anyone with perl programming experience. He showed some of us his
e-commerce site and showed us what it could do. I don't know how everyone
felt about his recruitting. Well if you need talented people what a better
place to get them than a Linux users group. I guess we could talk about this
next time.
Kent brought his computer in and Seth helped him find some files he needed on
the net. Kent then compiled and ran a niffty little program where lots of
little tuxes ran aound the open windows. I got a copy of it.
Corey was woking on getting his mail program working. I think he got it
working. Mike was helping him out. What doesn't Mike know when it comes to
Linux.
There were a couple of people who were pretty new to linux. It was nice to
show them some of the basics stuff. I went over man pages and how they can
provide a lot of information.
Someone asked what a good book for learning linux and it almost everyone said
"Running Linux ". It one book most of us must have read. If you haven't read
it you should take a look at it for learning Linux.
Seth and Mike and Paul went over to visit with Stan for a while. I asked Seth
what they talked about he said they visited some sites on Kline bottles. He
said they talked about e-commerce. I wasn't there but it should have been
interesting.
KDE 2.0 has been released since last Thursday's meeting and I'm sure we'll be
looking it over this Thursday. Also Sun released Star Office as Open
source. It is now called Open Office.
There are a couple of People requested the three Debian disk if they could
brought. Thanks.
