Well, fixed the problem, I think, oddly it that was that in
etc/network/interfaces the line with the 
iface io inet <forgot param> #had a comment here
 and for some reason it was treating this comment as another param.

Well next question, how do I change the source list for aptget?
Specifically where is it and what web (ftp?) addresses to I pu in it?
Remember I'm a newbie.
