Thursday November 2, 2000 There were about 20 people. There were about 6 computers being worked on. I brought my 2 computers and was going to try and network them together. This didn't work out because one of the network cards wasn't working. Mike showed Kent and how we could network the two. I was able to watch a little TV with the WinTV GO card. Seth tried to get festival going but we didn't have enought time to get into why. Festival is a program which you have text files or your web pages talk to you. It would have been nice to get it going but I'll get it going eventually. Seth brought in his NIC and downloaded and burnt the latest version. It allowed the resolution to be brought up to 1024 x 768. Mike helped Ken with his two computers. I don't know exactly what they were doing but I think he got it working for him. I didn't know the maker of my one machine's motherboard so Paul and Stacey showed me how to find the maker of my motherboard. When your computer boots up there is some numbers at the bottom of the screen. Copy those numbers down and then you can go to what I believe was http://www.motherboards.com . You can also do a search of this number and it should give the information you would need. Stacey was taking more pictures. We got on a web page he set up and looked at the pictures. He's going to put the new ones up. Thanks again Stacey. Since the Vote for President and other offices was coming up,we talked about voting. We talked about choosing "None of the Above" on the ballot. Sounds good to me. This was a short subject. I guess were more interested in Linux. Some of us think it would be good to learn something each clinic. So if you want to show us some nifty program. There are some new people to Linux. I know we have some information on some of the commands. I can make copies to hand them out. Rob surprised me. He had a copy of last weeks notes. Everyone thanked me for writting these up. Since some of you don't make it every week, you can know what we're doing. I'd like to see more people using Linux. First of all, it's free, Two, it's Open Source. So if you haven't made it down to the group in some time, come on down and see what's happening. Let us know what you're doing with your Linux box. This week I saw a thing on Eazel and checked out their site: http://www.eazel.com/ Eazel is looking good and should help put Linux on the Desktop. Gnome and KDE are getting much nicer. If you have some favorite theme when your down, let's check them out. I'll see you at the meeting. Tim
