Set of modify your typematic rate in linux with:
kbdrate -r 30 -d 250

I find that on my laptop, when linux wakes up, not only is my nic disabled for at 
least a few minutes, my keyboard is pretty groggy too.  Thanks to Bob Miller's 
presentation, I've now put in commands to instantly reset my nic, and my keyboard upon 
resume.  (/etc/apmd_proxy, or in debian: /etc/apm/event.d/<scripts>)

Works great!
