I want to point out I had trouble with the -m option to hdparm awhile back on an IDE drive with a large REISER filesystem on it. If you install a system with an exotic filesystem ie. not ext2, I would reccommend using the system for an hour or two for non critical tasks, before relying on it. Every time I have had a problem after using hdparm it was apparrent within in 5 minutes, so I figure 2 hours split between command line mode and a gui should be a sufficient test of a new file system Jim K
